CAMPAIGN BRIEF
2027

A dossier for commissioning the pilot: twelve fields, named owners and a specific version to review before activating spend.

From an offer to a pilot you can review

A brief connecting business, creative, destination and measurement.

A useful ChatGPT Ads campaign brief answers a practical question: what are we commissioning, for whom, and under which conditions? “We want to test the channel” starts a conversation. Commissioning the work takes a little more luggage. Your offer, destination, account, measurement and budget need to describe the same project.

This 2027 planning guide provides a campaign dossier you can prepare internally or share with an agency. Technical references were reviewed on 25 October 2026. The year identifies this planning edition; features and access need checking again for the intended account. Examples are fictional and do not represent campaigns we have run or customer results.

1. Start with a business decision worth testing

Before falling in love with the dashboard, write down what you want to learn. For example: whether a maintenance assessment offer attracts enquiries that the sales team can usefully handle. That sentence already requires an audience, an offer and an outcome. “Get visibility through AI” leaves far too many doors open when it is time to assess the work.

Define the boundaries as well. A paid advertising campaign does not demonstrate stronger organic visibility in AI answers. A click does not establish that a commercial opportunity has arrived. Our ChatGPT advertising service separates preparation, activation, measurement and management. A brief should make those pieces clear enough to scope and price individually.

2. The campaign brief: twelve fields to agree

Use this as a working document. Each field needs an owner and a checkable reference: an approved offer page, a reviewed configuration or an internal decision. If an answer is unresolved, say so. A clearly identified open item is more useful than an enthusiastic tick with nothing behind it. Send the same version to everyone involved in preparing a quote.

Editorial template for commissioning the pilot
Field What to record
Decision What evidence would support continuing, changing or stopping the pilot.
Offer What is offered, to whom, under which conditions and approved claims.
Account Owner, access, currency, timezone and outstanding reviews.
Market Delivery country and language; availability confirmed for this account.
Intent The needs behind each proposed group and its boundaries.
Creative Messages, images, claim sources and approval owner.
Destination URL, visible offer, journey, language and next action.
Outcome Priority action, confirming system and commercial definition.
Measurement Events, identity, consent behavior and planned tests.
Buying Objective, billing event and strategy available in the selected product.
Investment Media, preparation, management, limits and change authority.
Release review Reviewed version, owners, open items and next decision.

3. Account and market: establish the advertiser context

Identify the account before several people start preparing assets. Record the owner, contact, required permissions, currency and timezone. Keep evidence without putting credentials in the brief. If an API integration is involved, the technical team checks access through the agreed route; the commissioning document only needs to record who verified it and when.

The official account documentation separates configured status from reviews. An active account does not establish that every review is approved or every campaign can serve. Record the observed state and the issue still to resolve. An omitted field should not quietly become an approval in your handover document.

Separate the advertiser’s location from the market in which you intend to show the offer. Selecting a country does not establish advertising availability for the account. The targeting reference helps review configuration, while access confirmation belongs to the specific project. Until it is established, the launch date remains a proposed date rather than a commitment.

4. Connect the offer, intent and message

Consider a fictional company offering a maintenance assessment for industrial plants. It might explore needs around planning interventions or comparing an external review. The brief should describe those situations and the value of the offer in each. A label such as “industry” is too broad to guide messages or explain the enquiries received later.

Prepare a small family of distinct angles: reviewing a particular situation, understanding what the assessment covers, and assembling information for an initial discussion. Several interchangeable lines that repeat the same claim add little. For each proposed message, record the claim, its supporting source and the page that explains it. These are communication hypotheses, without a guarantee of appearing in a particular conversation.

Check what the sales team can actually promise. If an assessment needs documents in advance or covers particular equipment, carry that condition through the offer. Introducing it only after the click creates a different conversation from the one the ad appeared to propose. A precise brief gives creative and sales teams the same assignment to work from.

5. Give each message a destination that continues it

Assign destinations before signing off the creative. Check that the page presents the offer, explains who it is for and provides a coherent action. In the industrial example, requesting a scope discussion could be more useful than sending someone to a corporate homepage where they have to find the relevant service themselves.

Include the language, final URL, expected redirects, requested information and confirmation step. Review successful and failed journeys: what someone sees after submitting, and what happens when a required field is missing or delivery fails. Keep the result with the page version. An attractive screenshot supports a discussion about composition; functional acceptance needs the implemented journey.

The official campaign management guide distinguishes previews from serving conditions. Carry that distinction into the scope: approving appearance does not confirm eligibility. Record the agreed tracking parameters as well, then check their arrival at the actual destination. A preview should not be asked to prove something it does not test.

6. Measurement: agree what a useful enquiry means

In this example, submitting a form, receiving it and qualifying the enquiry are three moments. Decide which becomes an advertising event and where the other stages will be reviewed. If sales rejects an enquiry because it falls outside the service, retain that reason. Otherwise the campaign can look excellent in a platform report and much less useful to the person answering requests.

The brief does not need to become a complete technical specification. It does need to identify the source confirming the action, the journey, domains and measurement owners. Our OpenAI Pixel and Conversions API guide develops identity, receipt and attribution, with an acceptance plan you can include in the project scope.

To accept this work, request evidence for successful actions, failed actions, repetitions and consent behavior. If browser and server are both involved, agree how they identify the same action. The official integration setup guide describes account prerequisites; public documentation does not prove those capabilities are enabled for your implementation.

7. Budget: three cost lines and clear authority

Separate media investment, preparation and implementation, and management or analysis. Then identify who may change each line and how agreement is recorded. One proposal may involve substantial setup and limited ongoing work; another may do the opposite. When these lines are blended, comparing agencies and understanding who works on the campaign after launch becomes unnecessarily difficult.

For a fictional planning example, an authorized media ceiling of €1,200 over twenty days divides into an arithmetic average of €60 per day. This is a budget allocation exercise, not an investment recommendation, platform minimum or daily spending guarantee. Check the configuration and its conditions before translating an internal authorization into a setting in the advertising product.

Our ChatGPT Ads CPC, CPM and bidding guide separates objective, billing and strategy. Record all three decisions in the brief. To compare commissioned work, also use the breakdown of ChatGPT Ads budget, setup and management. The cost of a commercial opportunity is observed later; dividing a budget cannot establish it in advance.

8. The release dossier: review a specific version

Assemble the offer, messages, destinations, intended settings and tests into an identifiable version. Record who reviewed each part and what remains open. If a claim, destination or outcome definition changes, revisit the related items. Approval of an earlier offer does not automatically resolve the next modification. The release record should point to the materials it actually covers.

Propose a short review with four responsibilities represented: business, creative and destination, implementation, and measurement. One person can hold several roles, but assign them explicitly. The record should establish what is ready to submit for platform review, what needs correction and who checks delivery when appropriate. Internal readiness and platform approval are different states.

Local exercise using six fictional dossiers
Situation Local rule result
Complete brief, matching version Candidate for launch review.
Unconfirmed market Availability confirmation pending.
Rejected brand review Review issue unresolved.
Missing measurement evidence Tests pending.
Media above authorized amount Budget adjustment or authorization pending.
Approval covers another version New internal review pending.

We ran these six comparisons on invented records in a local program: one dossier became a candidate and five retained their specific open item. No campaign was created or activated. No account was queried and no events were sent. The exercise checks dossier rules; it does not replace eligibility, platform reviews, measurement testing or a real advertiser’s approval.

9. Decide how the first delivery will be reviewed

Before launch, agree who reviews serving issues, spending and enquiry quality. Define when the next decision is due and what information it needs. Changing messages, budget and destination together can leave you without a useful explanation of what happened. Record changes so the report retains the context of the work. A handover should help the next person understand the experiment.

The official reporting documentation explains that metrics have different processing timelines. Keep the report, complete period, currency and attribution settings together. Then compare the signal with the commercial source. An initial result might justify fixing the journey or collecting more evidence; increasing investment should follow a reasoned decision rather than the excitement of the first clicks.

10. What to send when requesting a comparable proposal

Send the brief, offer conditions, available destinations, an anonymized example of a useful enquiry and the account situation. Explain what your team can provide and which work you need to commission. If a dependency remains open, ask the proposal to identify its owner, next action and effect on the schedule. That makes uncertainty a manageable project item.

The agency can then return scope, deliverables, assumptions and acceptance criteria on a shared basis. To prepare the initial engagement, tell us which offer you want to test with ChatGPT Ads. A concrete brief makes for a better conversation than a proposal built around “doing something with AI”. It also gives your team a document it can use when the work is delivered.

Questions when preparing the campaign brief

Can I request a quote before account access is confirmed?

Yes, provided the scope separates preparation from activation. The proposal should identify what can be delivered now, what depends on access and how the schedule changes if that dependency remains open. You can start the discussion before everything is resolved; committing to launch requires the remaining checks.

Does the pilot need a new landing page?

That depends on the available page and the journey the offer needs. Review message, conditions, action and confirmation first. If the current page covers those needs, specify the changes required. If it does not, define the new destination and its acceptance as a separate part of the assignment.

Which version does the team approve?

A version identifying the offer, messages, destinations, measurement and budget. Keep its references with the approval record. When a component changes, decide which checks need repeating before proceeding. That history establishes what was reviewed without relying on someone’s recollection of the last meeting.
